Life is full of teachable moments

I have a sixteen year old son that I am teaching to drive. I realize that driving can be complicated and requires the mastery of managing multiple inputs simultaneously. He is nervous and so am I.

Earlier that day I had the opportunity to give out boxes of dairy products provided by our church. As we were passing out boxes a fifth grade boy who I had previously played catch with at our home came over and began to help me.

After asking him about school and how he felt about virtual class, he eventually asked me about my college. I told him about all the schools I had graduated from and he went on to tell me about his interest in science.

This provided me with the opportunity to talk to him about different forms of engineering including mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering.

In both examples, I have no way of know how much the lessons sunk in. I can only pray that I responded in a way that filled them with the confidence to keep trying until they could master driving and gravitate towards careers that match their interests.
