I sat at my parent’s home and watched football for a majority of the afternoon and on into the late evening. Sports teaches us to always consider options when one way is blocked. Sports also teaches participants to adapt to changes in real time. Growing up playing sports has allowed me to develop this skill, but I find myself in a position where I need to teach my children and students how to deal with change and not get frustrated.
I searched for a good reference book, but I could not find one on “How to train your child to adapt to change”. I thought about Navy Seal training, but I wanted to focus on mental toughness and learning to adapt. The book by David Goggins comes to mind, but the language may be more than my 16 year old cares to handle. I gravitated to the video below from “The Rock”.
The key to developing the sports athlete’s mindset is learning to bounce back from diversities. Some diversities are caused by errors and some are forced upon you by your opponent.
