Sheriff Bobby Lane was sort of a mystical character around my small community of Tibbee. He passed away on November 5, 2020. I did not know much about him, but I would always hear horror stories about the ordeal of being stopped by him. I never knew him to be overly mean, but I still paid special attention when driving along the Tibbee roads.

He was just a stickler for the law and would not budge on citizens who chose to speed in his purview. Hearing the story of his dedication as an officer for over 30 years of service to the sheriff’s department. He aspired to be the permanent Chief of Police, but was only put in the position temporarily several times during his career.
It is funny how we grow up fearing people that we never had the chance to really meet and speak with.
