Jewel Brother George Kelley became the first African-American engineer registered in the state of New York. He was employed as an engineer for the New York Engineering Department and later went on to become an Auditor with the Department of Taxation and Finance. Jewel Brother George Biddle Kelley stated at the 18th General Convention of Alpha Phi Alpha that “Alpha needs Quality, not Quantity”. (“Jewel George Biddle Kelley,” 2013)
