Jewel Brother Nathan Allison Murray returned to Washington, D.C. to teach in public schools as an instructor in agriculture and biology. At the Third Annual Victory Garden Harvest Show in 1945, Jewel Nathan Allison Murray was the only African American among the 300 competitors. He won three prizes for his plant specimen.
